Cyanotype is one of the most stunning and easy printing techniques that harness the power of the sun. Using a light-sensitive solution and any object you like—whether it's leaves, fans, or bowls—you can create unique blueprints on paper or fabric. At scrapsnpieces.gr, you'll find a wide variety of cyanotype products, whether you're a beginner or an artist.
Today, I’ll show you how simple it is to create your own print! Let’s get started!
What you'll need from the store:
- Cyanotype Kit – The package includes the two components of cyanotype, along with instructions in English.
- Watercolor or mixed media paper – waterproof and with good absorbency.
- Fabric - Sketchbook, box or bag.
- Stencil, flowers, lace, leaves, film negatives – anything that can create shadows.
- Sponge brush – to apply the cyanotype liquid
- Measuring spoon - for accurate dosing
- Gloves and protective cloth – for a clean surface
- Basin with water /spray bottle – for rinsing the print

Step-by-step instructions:
Mix the solution and apply it to the paper or fabric using the sponge brush.
Let it dry in a dark place (not under the sunlight!) for 1-2 hours.
Place the objects you want to print onto the surface. Secure them with glass (use the relevant of a photo frame) or paper clips if needed.
Expose it to the sunlight for 10-20 minutes, depending on light density.
Rinse with water until the yellow/green color washes away and the blue remains.
- Let it dry – and you'll have a unique handmade cyanotype! So simple!
