The Daniel Smith Artist Masking Fluid is designed for resist techniques with watercolor, gouache, inks and other water-soluble media. Apply it to dry paper to create a protective film that blocks colour from reaching the areas you want to keep white or clean.
The key advantage of this bottle is that it includes 5 fine-point applicator tips, giving you more control directly from the bottle. It is ideal for fine lines, small dots, highlights, water reflections, stars, snow, lettering, leaf veins, flower details and areas that are difficult to preserve with a brush alone.
The fluid dries to a transparent caramel colour, making it easier to see the protected areas while you work. Once fully dry, paint over it with watercolor, gouache or inks. When the artwork is finished and completely dry, gently remove the masking fluid with your fingers or a rubber pickup to reveal the clean paper underneath.
For best results, use it on good-quality watercolor or mixed media paper, and do not remove it before both the masking fluid and the paint layers above it are fully dry. On handmade, highly fibrous or delicate papers, test first on a small area.
