The handmade Mitsumata paper originates from Japan and is crafted from the fibers of the Mitsumata plant (Edgeworthia chrysantha).
Its traditional production method, known as Nagashizuki, was developed in the 5th century and remains almost unchanged to this day.
Historically, Mitsumata paper was chosen for imperial and governmental documents due to its outstanding quality.
It stands out for its smooth, parchment-like surface, tear resistance, and natural insect-repellent properties that make it remarkably durable over time.
Today it’s a favorite among artists and conservators for ink, pen, pencil and other dry media, adding timeless elegance and strength to every creation.
