Everything you need to know about the glues we use in scrapbooking!

I remember when I first started scrapbooking, I kept trying to find the right glue for the right task! I was lucky to have great friends who were advanced crafters and who helped me a lot to choose depending on my craft.

So in today's blog post, I will try to help all of you new scrapbookers by explaining the different uses of several types of glue: because each glue has a certain use!

Liquid glue

You will find many options in this category!

Let's start with our favorite Glossy Accents: a liquid glue that creates magically, 3D effects once it dries! Ideal for gluing small decorations since its fine mouth is designed to release a minimal amount. Its strong composition allows you to stick even heavy metallic decorations! And of course, you can use it as liquid glass on any decoration or detail you want to highlight. Because it dries quickly, be careful not to leave it open. Otherwise, a pin in its mouth will always keep it sealed and flowing!

For large surfaces, we use PVA glues. What are these? White glues, which become transparent when dry. We can find them in many brands and many different types. Perhaps the best known in Greece is atlacoll, which is a very fluid PVA used in carpentry applications.

The special PVA for papers, is the well-known bookbinding glue, a very thick glue without any moisture as to keep the paper from "curling". It is spread with a brush or spatula and is ideal for gluing chipboard, cardboard, etc

Aleene's Tacky Glue also stands out. Expect the one for general use, it comes in many special types, such as turbo for a stronghold, fast grab for immediate drying, over & over to be able to stick and peel off, and also acid-free! Of course, there is also a glue pen for details, which is currently sold out (you certainly love it, that's a fact 😉) but we expect it back soon!

This particular glue is probably the most "flexible" glue as it is suitable for paper, ribbon, fabric, and in general everything we use in scrapbooking! It is a very strong glue and also ideal for gluing/joining covers to handmade mini albums.
You can use it as it is, dilute it with water and even paint it with acrylics!

Another liquid glue we often use is Mod Podge. And this is also PVA but much more diluted, so we use it more as a sealer. When we create our own albums and journals, a layer of mod podge acts as a varnish to protect our cover.

It comes in matte or glossy. However, in both cases, after it dries, it becomes transparent!

Double-sided tapes

Perhaps the most useful glue in scrapbooking! Double-sided tape is found on all scrapbookers' desks and bags! We just use it everywhere! I personally don't go anywhere without my ATG GUN, but also my red double tape, which is great for small areas and has a really strong hold!
These tapes stick easily, firmly, without "curling" the paper, and the best part? They have a permanent outcome! And of course, they are safe to stick photos on without fading or destroying their colors!

Glue Dots
Very useful when we want to glue papers together or small decorations on our crafts! We also use them to create glitter details, but also to glue ribbon, lace, etc. They come in various sizes either in a roll or in a gun! It is probably the easiest and fastest glue to use!

Dimensional Stickers

They are the stickers that allow us to give dimension and volume to our crafts. They come in squares or circles of various sizes, as well as in tape, which I personally prefer because I cut as much as I need! But I confess that I also use small circles for some very small decorations, such as buttons or die-cuts!

Last but not least, let's not forget the common glue stick which is now both acid-free so as not to damage the photos and as strong as a super glue helping you to stick cardstock.

So that's it for today!

I hope this article has helped you somehow, and that now you feel confident while choosing the right glue for your specific scrapbooking task!

Anyway, keep on creating, and see you next week!

Artistic kisses
